In this case study Tom shares his experience with Yoga Nidra and the powerful transformation he has experienced in his life. A horse lover, Tom is currently planning to lead Yoga Nidra sessions at his equestrian center, combining the therapeutic effect of horseback riding with the benefits of Yoga Nidra!
WHAT FIRST BROUGHT YOU TO YOGA?
I had some health issues which created a great deal of anxiety in my life. One of doctors I was seeing at the time suggested I try yoga. I was really skeptical but I gave it a go. I went to a few classes but I kept feeling uncomfortable, like an outsider.
I really thought yoga wasn’t for me until I attended a class at Yoga Pura.
The first evening I came to practice I was still nervous, fearful; I felt I would look like a fool. After all, my first few experiences had been less than ideal! However, as soon as I walked through the door everything changed. The young lady at the reception desk welcomed me warmly, walked me around the studio, helped me with my mat and made me feel welcome and at ease. The instructor was amazing! She introduced herself right away and showed real interest about me, my health issues and my practice.
To date I still remember her advice to listen to my body and make the yoga poses work for me.
HOW HAS YOGA AFFECTED YOUR DAILY LIFE?
That’s an interesting question because at first I don’t think I noticed a difference at all!
It was only when my closest friends began to remark on how much calmer, relaxed, and even more assured and confident I seemed, that I realized something had shifted within me.
I started to feel and see a difference in my body—the small aches and pains seemed to had vanished and I wasn’t cringing in pain every time I had to bend over and pick something up from the floor!
As I continued to practice I became more aware of my breath and I started to use it to literally change my mental and emotional state. Every time I felt a little anxious or angry, controlling my breath helped me to regain a calm and relaxed state.
I discovered a new power!
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO START PRACTICING YOGA NIDRA?
I started to take a few classes at the studio as I had heard about the benefits of the practice.
I was really intrigued to find out for myself how lying on the floor for 45 minutes could change anyone's life!
From that very first session I felt more relaxed, at peace, and I experienced a pervasive sense of calm and clarity that I had never felt before. I wanted more of it. With just a few sessions my perspective on life made a 180 degree shift.
HOW DID YOGA NIDRA AFFECT YOUR LIFE?
The biggest gift Yoga Nidra has given me is a sense of clarity. I was finally able to see the invisible forces that were running my actions, my behaviors and ultimately my life.
Recurrent thought patterns and unhelpful habits suddenly became visible and Yoga Nidra gave me the tools to change them. I knew exactly what I wanted to attract in my life and I knew that the change had to start within me.
Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t happen overnight but it does happen. I felt more empowered and overall happier. And when the bad days come, as they always do, I feel that they don’t have a lingering effect on me. I am able to shake them off more easily by simply changing how I react to them.
It’s hard to explain but I can guarantee it happens. And for me, it changed everything.
WHY DID YOU TAKE THE YOGA NIDRA CERTIFICATION PROGRAM?
It was a call from deep within my soul. I had gained so much from Yoga Nidra and I knew I had to give back, I had to share it with others. My life had for many years been all about taking: the salary raise, the promotion, the bigger house, more and more stuff.
Now it was time to give.
The program helped me discover the science behind the magic. I knew Yoga Nidra worked first-hand but I was sincerely impressed by the scientific approach that goes behind what may seem like a very simple technique. There is so much more to it!
From the understanding of human physiology, to energetic anatomy to the subtler mental and emotional aspects of our being, I realized how the transformation process that I experienced didn’t happen by chance.
WHO DO YOU THINK COULD BENEFIT FROM THIS PROGRAM
Anyone who wants to transform their life and help others do the same could benefit from this program. However, it’s not just about learning the process of Yoga Nidra and the different techniques that can be applied.
