Live Happy. That’s what we say around here at Yoga Pura. And it’s because that’s the essence of what yoga is all about: your freedom, your happiness. But yoga doesn’t just stop there, at happiness, because let’s face it, happiness is easy: go see a movie, have an ice cream, spend time with a friend. There’s an endless array of things we can do, experience, or obtain that will make us happy—at least for a time.

And this is where the real challenge comes in. Happiness that lasts an hour, a week, a month, that’s simple; it’s our quest for a lasting happiness, one that permeates our lives under any circumstance that eludes us. So the challenge becomes one of experiencing happiness despite what may come, with whatever life brings. And this is the key to a life fulfilled.

The ancient yogis recognized this challenge, and this is why yoga, authentically practiced, invites us to ask one crucial question of ourselves: how can I be happy now? And of course, the key word is now. Right now. Not when you lose 10 pounds, not when you can touch your toes, not when you’ve achieved perfect health, a great job, or the ideal relationship. Right now, in this very moment—because let’s face it, now is all you’ve got.

Unfortunately, yoga as practiced today often loses sight of that all important word: now. As a result, instead of a practice that helps us to relax and be happy today, we end up with a litany of additions to our already too-long to do list. The cover of a recent popular yoga magazine says it all: it beckons us to lose weight, get in shape, find your soul mate, get your energy flowing, build core strength, sleep better, tune into your chakras. As if you don’t already have enough to do—and that’s just what was on the cover!

Of course, there is nothing wrong with losing weight, building strength, or tuning into your chakras, but again, what about now? What about right now—weighing what you weigh, marginally fit, completely oblivious to your chakras—how can you be happy with this?

It is with this invitation in mind, that we at Yoga Pura offer the teachings of yoga. Our effort is to preserve the integrity of the original truths of this ancient science, while translating them for practical application in your life today. Not as a way to escape from your life; not as a way to help you improve things so you can be happy; but instead to help you to embrace your life today. To be happy as you are now, as your life happens, on so-called good days and bad.

And yes there is more, much more in fact. This kind of unconditional happiness is just the beginning of an adventure that will transform your life into one of unimaginable beauty and surprise. But for now, we’ll leave you with one final invitation: please join us. Embark on this magnificent voyage of self-discovery and fulfillment. And of course: Live Happy.

Blessings,
E
